Dear Writer-Friends,

I've been self-publishing since 2011, and I've shared the knowledge I've gained in two books: the Indie Author Survival Guide, Second Edition, and For Love or Money. I'm not an indie rockstar or a breakout success: I'm one of thousands of solidly midlist indie authors making a living with their works. These books are my way of helping my fellow authors discover the freedom of indie publishing. Write on, writer-friends!

INDIEgiving

INDIEgiving is a blog hop sponsored by the Indelibles to reflect on our blessings and share something with our visitors during the week of (American) Thanksgiving.

I have way too many things to be thankful for:

  • That INDIE publishing is an option for authors
  • All my writer friends who have supported my journey into the wilds of INDIE publishing
  • All the readers and book bloggers who have taken a risk on INDIE books
INDEPENDENCE
In a way, the INDIE part of indie publishing is a misnomer - there are so many people involved in getting a book published, that it's hardly one soul out in the wilderness by themselves. Critique partners and editors, cover designers and book bloggers, even the readers who spread the word about an indie book are part of the process of taking a book from a writer's imagination and transforming it into a reader's experience.

In an effort to give thanks to people involved in all different parts of indie life, I'm giving away something that can help (directly or indirectly) anyone involved in any part of the indie experience. An Amazon gift card may not be very glamorous, but it will support a reader's desire to read, a writer's desire to write, and indirectly support all the people who support indie writers themselves. I think that's a WIN all around.

Enter to win, and hop around for more thankfulness made of WIN. :)

  1. Writers today have so much to be thankful for. Just the opportunity to spread our wrings and publish our stories is amazing and something we couldn't quite conceive of 5 years ago.

  4. Yes, I'm so thankful for all things indie too! The option alone is a blessing that we didn't have when I started in this business.

  5. One of my favorite 'biproducts' of indie publishing is how it brought the relationship between writer and reader together and gave even more power to the reader to create a successful book. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Susan. Thanks for EVERYTHING you do for your fellow writer.

  6. You're right -- even with an indie book, there's so many people involved in the creation (as I've discovered this past year in writing 'Bright Star'). I've loved finding my CPs, and awesome editors, but most of all, I've loved the feedback I've gotten from readers. That really makes my day.

  7. Love this blogfest!

So true. A book will be a flop if not for all the other variables involved.
