Dear Writer-Friends,

I've been self-publishing since 2011, and I've shared the knowledge I've gained in two books: the Indie Author Survival Guide, Second Edition, and For Love or Money. I'm not an indie rockstar or a breakout success: I'm one of thousands of solidly midlist indie authors making a living with their works. These books are my way of helping my fellow authors discover the freedom of indie publishing. Write on, writer-friends!

  1. I paid to have my formatting done the first time. A mistake, as I still had to spend many hours re-reading the work and sending back 'correction notes'--and to top it all off, the final result wasn't of great quality. I did it on my own the second time by learning some basic html and following a couple of Online guides. While not painless, the learning curve wasn't that steep.

My basic tip would be to invest the initial time in learning how to do it properly on your own and never have to worry over the time and expense of outsourcing again.

    1. I have a FABULOUS person do the work for me (which I talk about in subsequent posts)... and I still came to the conclusion you did: that it's worthwhile to invest time in learning the skills to be able to do it yourself. Hopefully the rest of the posts on formatting will help people to do that.

  2. Loved the trailer! Makes me want to read the trilogy all over again! I also have referred to your formatting post several times and it's the best guide I've found. Thanks!
