Dear Writer-Friends,

I've been self-publishing since 2011, and I've shared the knowledge I've gained in two books: the Indie Author Survival Guide, Second Edition, and For Love or Money. I'm not an indie rockstar or a breakout success: I'm one of thousands of solidly midlist indie authors making a living with their works. These books are my way of helping my fellow authors discover the freedom of indie publishing. Write on, writer-friends!

Third Daughter Optioned for Virtual Reality by Immersive Entertainment

I now have TWO properties under option for Virtual Reality with Immersive Entertainment.

Back in May, I announced that Debt Collector had been optioned for VR by Immersive. Now my steampunk fantasy romance series (The Dharian Affairs: Third Daughter, Second Daughter, First Daughter) has been optioned as well. Debt Collector is still the lead series (meaning it will come out first), but now two of the four properties Immersive is presenting to investors this week are Susan Kaye Quinn titles!

Wish us luck in getting that venture capital funding!

So Much Coolness
You can read more about VR and Immersive here, but basically, Immersive is at the forefront of bringing non-gaming entertainment to Virtual Reality (with hardware like Oculus Rift's not-yet-released VR goggles). I've been saying for a while that VR is going to explode once the hardware hits the shelves, but we're already seeing signs of content producers playing with the technology. This year's Comic Con had a demo from the TV show Sleepy Hollow in VR.

I GET TO TRY OUT THE GOGGLES!
Mid-August I'm taking the family to California to visit my mom, dad, and brother... and while we're there, I'll be meeting with Immersive's CEO Barr Potter, as well as founder Jeroen Van den Bosch, and Lead Content Creator Dan St. Pierre! I'm bringing the kids, and Immersive is going to demo the Rift for us!! Can't even tell you how excited I am about that. LOOK FOR PICTURES TO COME...

[Note to self: time to finish up First Daughter...]

Future of Storytelling
Whether it's my chilling future-noir in VR, or a lush east-Indian steampunk world come to life, it's tremendously exciting to be part of this new way of storytelling. And this is just getting started, folks. I see writers who will create content just for VR in the future, but I also see a lot of innovative storytelling coming out of the indie author world that would be perfect for this new medium.

"Virtual Reality is the next great storytelling medium."
Immersive Entertainment
"When you put it on, you enter a completely immersive computer-generated environment, like a game or a movie scene or place far away. The incredible thing about the technology is that you feel like you're actually present in another place with other people. People who try it say it's different from anything they've ever experienced in their lives." - Mark Zuckerberg (CEO of Facebook, which recently acquired Oculus for $2B)
The hardware is on the way... now is the time to develop content.
"We create next-generation Virtual Reality Experiences that represent a new form of entertainment. It bridges the gap between video games and movies, providing a level of immersion, emotional engagement and realism never before seen." - Immersive's website
